ABSTRACT

This chapter explores impact in relation to the intersection between linguistics and audiovisual translation, a domain of translation studies that has undergone a booming development both in terms of the quantity of texts that need to be translated and of the interest it has raised as a discipline in university programmes and research alike. In what follows we provide an overview of linguistic studies carried out in the field of AVT, focusing first on subtitling and dubbing as the main methods of language transfer on screen, and then moving on to consider the area of media accessibility, which has caught great scholarly attention over the past decade.
