ABSTRACT

This chapter looks a challenge based on a well-known TV show might be used to advance the learning in Literacy and Technology. The class will work in groups exploring the challenge questions. This will involve listening and talking, working with the school community and some historical research. Of course, there will also be the recording of information, and the presenting skills for the 'pitch,' to work on. The thinking here is that the class will do the research, find information and record and present it. They will need to consider the skills and approaches to research and, in particular, ways of presenting the information in a persuasive and entertaining style. The topic might be linked to a History-based project, such as 'the Victorians,' or a Technology-based programme of work. The whole school community can benefit from the experience – providing an audience for the presentations and helping to celebrate the product of their learning.
