ABSTRACT
In Chapter 1, the authors address the major question: What is feminism? The authors start by first providing a historical account of selected feminist icons to highlight some notable women who have fought for gender equality. Second, authors analyze the feminist movement in the broad historical context of the United States to highlight the initiatives, successes and missteps which have occurred. Third, authors unpack present day feminism – online feminism – and describe how the multiple truths of feminists are being disseminated in ways never known before through social media. Authors close by postulating how feminism will continue to expand in the future and what obstacles the movement will need to endure and overcome to end the current fragmentation of feminism.
