ABSTRACT

The Industrial Welfare Society produces film strips of limited objective cases. There is a wide divergence of opinion about the case study in management education. The simplest method of classifying cases is by length and use. The human relations and technical problem cases are effective for teaching purposes at higher foremanship and middle management levels. They are based on the principle that each case must provide sufficient information to enable the student to analyse the situation, diagnose the problems, and see the general implications of his conclusions in relation to the particular case and its personalities. A purely technical case is one describing a process, technique, procedure or system without introducing the human factor. The closest approximation to the real life situation is a case study which combines the human and technical elements.
