ABSTRACT

The Sino – Indian contacts is found in the Arthashastra, Mahabharata, Ramayan and Laws of Manu. Chinese clothes were reaching India through Sichuan, Upper Burma and Assam by the third or second century bc. Indian monks arrived in China in between second century bc and first century ad and impact of Buddhism on Chinese culture is manifold. Wall paintings also had profound impact in China as a prototype of Ajanta. In the sixteenth century ad the Chinese became suspicious due to attacks by Japan and Portugal and began to shut down all external maritime contacts. Swami Sahajanand Saraswati formulated formulae for combining left politics with nationalist revolution and peasant struggle. But due to open opposition of the Communist Party of India and the Congress Socialist Party the goal was left unattained. Sahajanand had tried to get the Indian left to agree on the leadership of Subhas Chandra Bose and to form the left coordinating committee for grabbing power.
