ABSTRACT

The Central Sector is situated near the holy Kailash and Mansarovar lake in Tibet. In Indian mythology, Tibet is regarded as Kimpurush Vrasa meaning heaven in Sanskrit, and in Asia Minor it is known as Ilavartya. All the disputed areas are in the Central Sector on the Indian side of the Zanskar range. They are: Spiti Area, Buspa Valley, Kinnaur, Shipki-Shiaki Pass, Nilang and Jadhang, Gangotri-Yamunotri, Kedarnath-Badrinath, Kamet Peak and Lake Satopanth. Up to ad 1846 the Spiti was tagged with Ladakh but in 1846 it was annexed and was brought under the direct administration of Britain. It is also known as Sangla valley. The road is serpentine and dangerous. Buspa Valley one of the prettiest valleys in the Himalayas outside of Kashmir. Kinnaur was residence of Aryan tribes such as Kinnaur, Yaksh, Nag, etc., who are said to have been half-men and half-gods. Bandar-poonch peak separates Yamuna valley from Jahnavi Ganga valley.
