ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 describes an exploratory study involving a target population of naval aircraft engineers using a questionnaire that was administered during group sessions. It was hypothesised that time, location and other systems cues influence I-LED amongst engineers who had experienced the phenomenon. The systems view of human error is combined with a multi-process theory to explore the I-LED phenomenon, for which the findings suggest that the effective cognition of cues distributed across the sociotechnical system triggers I-LED events.
