ABSTRACT

Protect your assets, starting with dailies. Sending unprotected files or unsecured drives to the next facility or across the globe can be risky. Studio/network dailies are stored on an encrypted RAID, hard drive or tower which is only accessible via company servers with the correct key. Editorial takes precautions by limiting access to editorial computers and data storage banks which are not connected to the internet but are on internal servers in a secret location. Employees who have to download material from outside have separate computers for that use, and their software is designed to download data only. Even independent filmmakers find that the content can be held hostage, uploaded to the internet or exploited if not protected. Each step of post through delivery can be secure. Watermarking, encryption and KDMs all help to keep your content safe. Studios have built anti-piracy measures that will be used if you are working on a studio show. Secure internet pipelines for sending and receiving data, limited access and traceable metadata are all studio standards. Heavily vet vendors or service providers, and make sure when transferring or storing your data via the Cloud, or third-party transfer it in a secure pipeline.
