ABSTRACT

This chapter provides to record developments in the study of Kantor since 2010, when this book was first published. It is also a record of the way the death of a key twentieth-century performance and visual artist is seen by those who remain. Tadeusz Kantor's reputation as a major European performance maker has, ironically, improved since his death in 1990, with the publication of books and conference papers, as well as the ability to view key performances on DVD. Andrjez and Teresa Welminski, both long-standing members of the Cricot 2, have been, over several years, conducting workshops and creating performances with different European companies. Over the years there have been other experiments by ex-Cricot 2 performers, such as Bogdan Renczynski, and work at the Cricoteka attempts to preserve Kantor's practical legacy. Kantor's influence at that time was more on the wilder edges of performance than any connection with the writer-based theatre of the UK.
