An introduction to Australian Standard AS 7509, “Railway Rolling Stock—Dynamic Behaviour”

The aim of this paper is to explain the background to Australian Standard AS 7509 ‘Railway Rolling Stock—Dynamic Behaviour’ [1] and why it is necessary to have an Australian Standard for railway rolling stock dynamic behaviour when other standards already exist for this subject overseas. The paper explains how Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) standards are generated, then briefly explains AS 7509 and some of the similarities and differences to overseas standards.
