ABSTRACT

Tank car dynamics features are examined considering tank partial filling with liquid load. The examination is performed by simulation using “Universal mechanism” software package. Movable load is presented as a set of pendulums, vibrating in different planes of car body to obtain calculation results of wagon dynamic performance. Comparative analysis of tank car movement with various tank filling level is performed with presentation of the liquid as pendulums and as completely “solidified” load. Differences of dynamic performance are shown. The proposed mathematical model of liquid load in the tank car is recommended for use when calculating dynamic performance of freight cars.
