ABSTRACT

The speedup of railway vehicle caused high frequency vibration, and thus ride comfort was deteriorated by the resonance of seat. In this study, seat and passenger were modelled by Multi-Body Dynamics (MBD) and vibration analysis about seated passenger was carried out to establish the seat design guideline to reduce the uncomfortable vibration. Vibration tests were conducted and seat model and passenger model were constructed separately. Seat was divided into three parts and passenger model was constructed with 13 masses which had 23 degrees of freedom. Then, total vibration characteristics of passenger responses were investigated. Under front-back excitation, simulation results showed good agreement with the experimental one in low frequeccy area (0–20Hz), but especially in chest response, it showed differences in high frequency area. Under vertical excitation, the combined model was not sufficient to simulate the responses of passenger, so further studies were expected.
