ABSTRACT

This paper considers ways to increase stability of wheelset hunting. This paper starts with formulating the damped natural frequency and its damping ratios by analytical and not by numerical calculation. Considering these formulas, I obtained the following results. Firstly, the damping formula consists of creep coefficient/mass of wheelset and natural frequency of geometrical wheelset hunting. Secondly, The damping increases as the mass of the wheelset is reduced. Finally, increasing the rolling radius of the wheelset increases the damping when the vehicle speed is 100 [m/s] or more. In this result, increase in mass of the wheelset due to the increase in the radius and an increase in creep coefficient due to this mass increase are taken into consideration.
