ABSTRACT

Re-recruiting mid- and top-level performers is critical, especially in a strong economy when the number of jobs is plentiful. For top performers, employment alternatives are always just a phone call, mouse click, conversation, or newspaper away. Likewise, re-recruiting the best employees involves maintaining that same level of mutual excitement and commitment that existed prior to and during their early employment. Conversation is the foundation for a strong relationship with employees. Emphasize the relevance of the employee's work to the organization's mission and the symbiotic opportunities that lie ahead. Successful couples invest time in their relationship. Similarly, investing time in employees by getting to know them and by providing honest feedback, access to pertinent training, and challenging new job assignments sends an unmistakable message that they are valued. Investing in training employees is another strategy for keeping employees employable.
