Golf courses are a major economic generator and recreational and environmental outlet for most communities. Selecting the correct turfgrass and cultivar to satisfy the playing and aesthetic conditions desired can be a daunting task. The most popular turfgrass species and commercial cultivars are listed and described along with their advantages and limitations of each and where they are best adapted. Commonly used ornamental grasses, and sedges also used in golf course landscapes, are listed and covered. Integrating a holistic turf and ornamental grass landscape that are pleasing yet economical to maintain is emphasized.
