ABSTRACT
This chapter examines Career Duality (CD) in the context of the broader entertainment industry, including its international reach, with a focus on film and live theatre. This chapter offers some general information about the wider entertainment industry to lay a foundation for how CD applies to it. The music business is a subset of the broader entertainment industry, which is an amalgam of other industries to which CD also applies. There is another career path in motion pictures that evidences a CD choice, namely, where one chooses the entrepreneurial route. The pervasiveness of the gig economy has increasingly become a focal point for discussions about careers. The eye-opener is particularly relevant to a discussion of Career Duality, namely, a composer/actor/playwright/rapper/director/producer can revolutionize an industry. Living out duality in the theater business poses the same kinds of challenges as those within the music industry, as her story attests.
