ABSTRACT

Calling starts right where you are here and now. Sometimes we are inspired to act without fully understanding why. I may be inexplicably drawn to contact a friend, colleague, or relative with whom I have not spoken in a while. When I do, I learn they are experiencing a hardship, or simply needed to hear from me. Or you may be unexpectedly compelled to volunteer for a homeless shelter, or find a strong desire to give to a stranger whose need you sense. These short-term “calls” are not so different from the pull to apply for a position, or start a company, or be a creative. Calling is lived on a continuum, from small acts to bigger ones, from this moment to the next. Each time we respond to that voice, the more we understand how to respond to it and the clearer our callings become. Continuing, incremental revelations lead to larger flashes of insight.
