ABSTRACT

A 12-year-old girl was brought in to the hospital with severe lower abdominal pain and was diagnosed to have hematometrocolpos after examination and investigations. Surgical management with hymenotomy and drainage was recommended the same day by the consultant on call, who gave a clear explanation of the procedure, reasons, implications and risks. The young girl instantly declined as she was too scared of the operation, but later agreed after her mother and stepfather calmed her down.
