ABSTRACT

Remarkable progress made in device design and development now allows treatment of a range of structural heart diseases, including congenital heart disorders. Common congenital heart interventions include closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects, patent ductus arteriosus and foramen ovale defects, and aorto-coronary fistulae. Balloon dilatation of valvular stenoses, closure of septal defects, and stenting of aortic coarctation are also now routinely performed. This chapter deals with some of the interventions for congenital heart disease that are performed in adult cardiac catheterisation laboratories.
