ABSTRACT

This chapter integrates the recurring themes of the previous six chapters and reiterates the aim of the present book: to delve further into how the Jesuit Figurists interacted with, re-presented, and re-interpreted the Yijing and other Chinese classics for their Chinese theology. This chapter then further explains the reasons why this book mainly focuses on Bouvet’s and Prémare’s hermeneutics of the Yijing and discusses a comparative perspective from Kabbalah. While the dissemination of their Latin and French manuscripts back to Europe would be the next step of research, the other side of the story of the Jesuit Figurists revealed in this book already opens a new horizon in the minds of modern readers in the discipline of translation history, religious studies, and Sinological studies.
