ABSTRACT
Technology is one of the most prevalent and exciting tools available to the contemporary mathematics teacher. Schools have access to a growing range of ever-evolving resources that can help teachers' present mathematical ideas dynamically, empower pupils to explore mathematical relationships in innovative and meaningful ways, and promote both learning and engagement in the mathematics classroom. As a secondary school teacher, they have some responsibility for helping their pupils develop and practise skills of digital citizenship and e-safety. Many of the biggest online safety issues involve the use of social media and online messaging. Although these are unlikely to feature heavily in their mathematics lessons, be prepared that many pupils may have a habit of opening social applications whenever they use a device. While information and communication technology has the potential to enhance their lessons and boost pupil engagement, technology can also give rise to a number of practical problems that can occasionally derail a lesson.
