ABSTRACT

information and communication technology (ICT) offers a number of distinct benefits for the teaching and learning of mathematics. For instance, it has the potential to make mathematical concepts come alive through visual and interactive media. Technology also has the potential to change the culture of mathematics learning. Pupil-led ICT, where it is the pupils who operate the technology, can remove fear and barriers to learning and build confidence, as pupils get to explore mathematical concepts individually in a safe, non-judgemental way. Pupil-led activities give the pupils a chance to engage more fully with their learning by making them active participants in the learning process. However, embarking on any type of pupil-led activity, especially one that depends on ICT, requires detailed planning and preparation. Teacher will need to be prepared both practically and pedagogically. Feedback is an essential element of the learning process, with many research studies confirming the positive impact feedback can have on pupils’ learning.
