ABSTRACT

Readiness for the workplace is an important aspect of the formation of future engineers. But although the importance of education and formation of engineers is recognized, there is no consistent and robust approach available to us for assessing the effectiveness of various pedagogical methodologies, in particular those aimed at developing important core competencies related to employability of the graduates. The iTeach project described in chapter 7 aimed to develop such a robust and objective framework. Even though the project evaluated its validity for a range of pedagogical methodologies used in the particular case of chemical engineering, in a range of geographical and educational contexts, its validity should easily cross-correlate across other engineering disciplines. The basis of the framework and the results of its testing are briefly reviewed in this chapter to encourage engineering educators to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of their pedagogical approaches.
