ABSTRACT

Performance management in the public sector is a comprehensive concept that has to be viewed using multiple angles. It should be noted that developing performance measures in the public sector is different from the private sector in terms of the criteria. Performance indicators should be able to reflect a very important objective with a high level of uncontrollability. In addition to efficiency and effectiveness measures, the public sector requires us to focus on responsiveness to the demand of citizens. This responsiveness measures have an important meaning for the society in the sense that they reflect situational validation and societal vindication. This chapter discusses what should be considered to do right things right using proper performance indicators in the public sector.
