ABSTRACT

This chapter covers changes and transitions within I-O Psychology. Most students take a traditional career route from an undergraduate program to a traditional I-O graduate program, and this is the way most programs are set up, but there is a significant and growing population that make career changes into I-O at a later stage. We concentrate on three types of transitions and discuss opportunities and challenges within each. First, we focus on the I-O terminal master’s recipient who decides to pursue a Ph.D. Then, the individual with a Ph.D. in a different specialty who wishes to move into I-O either full-time or as an additional component to their practice. Finally, we discuss the non-psychologist who wants to make a complete change into I-O Psychology or a related occupation.
