ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses industry jobs and careers in I-O Psychology, referring to employment in private sector companies or internal consulting, which employs about one fourth of I-O practitioners. Industry jobs can take many forms across different industries and range from small companies to large global entities, resulting in a wide variety of opportunities for jobs in this sector for specialists and human resource generalists. We discuss when and how to go about a job search including timing, finding openings, and submitting applications. Then, we get into the interview process and provide some advice for those who experience trouble landing desired interviews or offers. Finally, we provide some insight into how to have success in industry jobs from the first days, years, and beyond.
