ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses government jobs and careers in I-O Psychology, a sector which employs about 10% of I-O practitioners and is appealing for those who are passionate about public service. Opportunities exist in institutions as varied as the federal government, state and local jurisdictions and agencies, the military, and quasi-public sector agencies. We then discuss when and how to apply for public sector jobs, which tend to have the most rigid timelines and may involve unique interview experiences and testing processes. We conclude by discussing how to have success in government jobs from the first days, years, and beyond.
