ABSTRACT

Students are more motivated when they value what they are doing and when they believe they have a chance for success. Success is the second key to student motivation. Students need to achieve in order to build a sense of confidence, which is the foundation for a willingness to try something else. Students with a growth mindset believe they can learn and become better. In order to create a rigorous environment, students must feel that there is a mutual respect between teacher and pupil. Creating an atmosphere that is full of grace and patience is part of the growth mindset, but it is also critically necessary in leading students to persevere through rigorous material and activities. Create a physical space that encourages interdependence on one another as a community of learners and safe place in which students feel as if they have opportunities for the three components of student ownership: choice, voice and leadership.
