ABSTRACT

Teachers’ beliefs, reflected in actions, demonstrate their expectations for their students. Students are stepping into a role-play scenario, using evidence and reasoning to generate hypothetical conversation between people with opposing viewpoints while maintaining the essence of the person’s true personality. Project Foundry is a popular learning tool that enables students to plan their own learning and track their progress. It also makes organizing student projects much easier for students and teachers. Key principles of genius hours are that students take charge of their own learning, including the design of the task, use of inquiry to navigate learning and the creation of a finished product to demonstrate a deep understanding of their topics. Inherent in the philosophy of a Genius Hour is the notion that students’ topics are driven by things they value. Educurious is a website with supplemental apps that aims to turn students into “developing experts” by connecting them with real-world mentors.
