Seeking Control of Dual-Stage Actuation Systems with Trajectory Optimization

In the implementation of the dual-stage actuation system, the primary actuator works as a first stage to generate coarse and slow movement, while the secondary actuator provides fine and fast positioning. With this servomechanism, the dual-stage actuators can improve both track-following and track-seeking performances for hard disk drives and outperform the single-stage actuator [1]. In the previous chapters, the control for high-precision positioning has been mainly addressed that is applicable for the track-following with the dual-stage actuation systems. This chapter is dedicated to the track-seeking control.
