ABSTRACT

Panteah is the administrative services manager for the A:shiwi College and Career Readiness Center for the Tribe of Zuni in Zuni, New Mexico. She has been the glue that has held the Zuni: Engaging Teachers and Community (ZETAC) program together. In this chapter she shares the changes she has seen in Indigenous education over many decades, especially with increased availability of technology, as well as the many educational opportunities available to Indigenous Peoples today. She delineates the history of the Zuni Public School District and describes the many activities that are part of ZETAC. An important focus of ZETAC is the A:shiwi Core Values, which Panteah includes in both English and Zuni. Panteah explains that the school district needs more Zuni tribal members to become certified teachers, thus giving children the sustainability they need for a continuous education.
