ABSTRACT

This chapter will contribute to the public relations literature in Kuwait by describing the current practice and by analysing the factors that have influenced its evolution and shape. After providing an overview of the Kuwait context, the chapter sheds light on the history of PR in Kuwait up to the present time by describing its development through the years. Throughout history, the relative space of political freedom has always been a recognised characteristic of the Kuwaiti community. That country’s people have used public relations tools in their political life, such as in campaigning, lobbying, negotiation, dialogue, and propaganda. The evolution of the Majlis Al-Umma (the Kuwait National Assembly) and its long history (since 1938) is a suitable case study that depicts a clear picture of public relations practice in the political context of Kuwait. From this perspective, the author believes this work’s critical focus will extend the academic body of knowledge on PR in Kuwait.
