ABSTRACT

Modern politics has become increasingly polarized, with sometimes extreme moral positions, in part a reflection of the economic inequality that has grown in many countries. This polarization runs counter to the way the design process works, trying to mediate among extremes and find middle ground among polarities with creative solutions that others haven’t imagined before. Design thinking offers a way of working that could benefit the political realm and public sector, helping people learn how to do things differently, how to agree on the commonality of their goals, and how to find ways to work together as people do on a construction site.
