ABSTRACT

Style has been a bugaboo for both modern architecture and contemporary ethics. In the twentieth century, modernists in these fields tended to view style as something that was superficial, subjective, and a suppression of people’s creativity, and as a result, both architects and ethicists dismissed style as something they should care about. But in more recent decades, style has made a comeback as we have realized that style remains inherent in how individuals act and express themselves, and that dismissing style is no more possible than ignoring individual differences. Style is something that will continue to exist regardless of what the opponents of style say, and it remain a key part of social interaction.
