ABSTRACT

The architectural profession lacks diversity, as a reflection of its origins in a male-dominated construction industry and in an equally male-dominated aristocracy. While the lack of diversity among decision-makers may have made this lacuna in the profession less apparent, it has become an enormous problem as architects increasingly work in and with diverse communities. The value of diversity lies not just in reflecting that of clients, but also in learning from different cultures how they have creatively responded to their environments.
