ABSTRACT

Tracy Hitchcock is an advocate of personal therapy and personal development groups. In this personal account, she shares her experiences of different types of PD groups during her psychotherapy training and her other experiences of being a participant in experiential groups in the 1990s. This chapter gives a first-hand experience of engaging with psychodrama, encounter and rebirthing groups. Tracy identifies some of her learning and the self-awareness she gained from taking part in these. She shares her opinions on the usefulness of groups for personal development and for increasing self-awareness. Although she expresses the discomfort she felt from participating in them, she also describes the benefits she gained.
