ABSTRACT
Once, decades ago, a TV weathercaster compared weather in the United States to a first-generation waterbed. Cold and wet conditions in the West meant warm and dry conditions in the East, and vice versa, just as a person lying on one side of an old waterbed would cause the opposite side to rise. Lying in the center would cause the margins to rise.
