ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5 we discuss modeling and simulation of things that oscillate, many of which comprise musical instruments such as guitar strings and drum heads. Not only is the finite difference model presented but also alternate approaches using more sophisticated math to get more physical insight; the reader can choose the type of model they use based on their particular needs. We then discuss the effects of resonance and finally a calculation from quantum mechanics were the electron in an atom is treated like a wave. All along, we encourage the reader to critically seek relevance and context to their work while understanding its limitations.
