ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the potential and limitations of digital resources such as mobile applications, educators’ blogs, and Pinterest in bringing art education histories and approaches into meaningful practice within contemporary art instruction for all students. It explores a selected mobile learning applications and digital resources related to the philosophies, with an analysis of their potential for students with disabilities and exceptionalities. The selected examples of Frederick Froebel’s Gifts, and artifacts of pedagogy from Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia practices is followed by discussion of practical uses of materials and approaches from these enduring philosophies in learning, emphasizing craft, nature, and play. The chapter examines readers to exemplary digital resources and online communities that serve the needs of inclusive art education. Meanwhile, Waldorf and Montessori-inspired nature-based craft projects abound in Facebook parenting and education groups. Waldorf perhaps offers not only a philosophy of education, but a way of living in the world that is accessible beyond school walls.
