ABSTRACT

This chapter evaluates the impact of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act 2010 in the advancement of the Nigerian content. It examines reports and statements published by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board as well as developments and milestones which have been achieved in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry since the passage of the Act. Furthermore, it analyses whether the legislative approach, which is quite popular among African petroleum producing countries, is the suitable legal framework for advancing local content. Lastly, it examines the enforcement challenges associated with far reaching legislative measures.
