ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book deals with the fractures and considers dilemmas surrounding a number of the possible limitations of transitional justice. It outlines responses to conflict and injustice which fall outside transitional justice or go beyond the borders of transitional justice. The book provides the limitations of transitional justice. Following this, possibilities within transitional justice are considered. It explores arguments for looking beyond transitional justice. The book argues that transitional justice in its standard forms cannot effectively address key issues affecting post-conflict societies and, consequently, new approaches are necessary. It describes the inclusion of initiatives such as Peasant Reserve Zones within transitional justice programmes and the expansion of their implementation could be an effective means of addressing structural violence around rural land distribution in Colombia.
