ABSTRACT

There has never been a more important time for the scientific community to prioritize communication as a part of the scientific process. As science is increasingly being publicly called into question, scientists hold the key to regenerating public interest in and engagement with science. Creating and sharing new knowledge is arguably the essence of science, and communication is at the core of that process. Science communication training is in high demand and the breadth of offerings continues to expand. Training that offers an emphasis on audience-centered science communication empowers scientists to share not only important information about their research, but also the wonder and value of science itself. This chapter draws on best practices in health communication training to offer a path forward for the most effective approaches to science communication training.
