ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the establishment of the Industrial and Technical Assistance (ITA) program and discusses its past accomplishments, activities, and future plans. Based in part on conversations with personnel from the programs and to most quickly inform Illinois industry of program, it was decided that the most effective first action would be to solicit possible hazardous waste generators with a mass mailing. The Hazardous Materials Laboratory will include areas for basic, bench scale research and also for applied pilot scale evaluations of treatment, recycling and waste reduction technologies. Additionally, ITA personnel have spoken to a large number of trade and professional groups to inform them of existence and to disseminate information on hazardous waste treatment options and changing hazardous waste regulations. Staffs from Hazardous Waste Research and Information Centers Information Program have assisted in details of the preparation, publicity, and running of the seminars. The seminars are expected to be conducted on an ongoing basis for the foreseeable future.
