ABSTRACT

In the new field of laser training for laser technology, perhaps more important from a practical standpoint than the laser biomedical engineer is the laser technician. With the increasing use of the laser in the medical field, laser paramedical personnel will be a new aspect comparable in importance to paramedical personnel in other fields of medicine. The training of the biomedical engineer with a background in biology and medicine will do much to help the development in this particular field. The laser biomedical engineer has an important role in the performance and safety of laser medical devices. Laser biomedical engineers can function as laser safety officers and can coordinate planning for the protection of the workmen. Retraining in laser technology may mean retraining from other areas into lasers or from lasers into other areas. The sairre principles apply, of course, to training and retraining in laser safety.
