ABSTRACT
Swarts pioneered the use of metal fluorides as nucleophilic fluorinating agents and prepared many fluoroaliphatic compounds from their chlorinated analogues using the strong Lewis acidic antimony fluorides.' Many other metal and nonmetal fluorides have been used in aliphatic halex reactions, but the most commonly used fluorides in aromatic halex reactions are the alkali metal fluorides, and potassium fluoride in particular.
