ABSTRACT
The Detroit Wastewater Plant serves the city of Detroit and 76 suburban communities. The plant consists of primary and secondary treatment, with dewatering and incineration of the resulting sludge. Training to prepare personnel for use of the computerized system has been varied and has included all plant personnel, not just maintenance personnel. The initial training was on the computerization of corrective maintenance orders which was the first part of the system actually implemented. The use of preventive maintenance (PM) will never eliminate the need for corrective maintenance. The plant multiple hearth incinerators, where the sludge cake produced by the filter presses and vacuum filters is burned to produce a sterile ash, are another example of the benefits of a PM program. The software package purchased was a fleet maintenance package designed for a smaller plant with a central maintenance staff.
