ABSTRACT

Machinery requirement is a major component in an economic comparison of tillage systems. The algorithm was modified to include a cost analysis with timeliness considered so that a machinery complement was selected for maximum profit on a given farm. Two basic methods for the selection of farm machinery were integrated to form the selection algorithm. These methods were: a capacity and power match; and a cost analysis. Crop and weather parameters include data on timeliness cost and the suitable work time available for various operations. The timeliness penalty set in the model for crop loss due to untimely operations may have a small effect on machinery selection. Parameters which describe the machinery include: commercial sizes available, field efficiency, field speed and power requirements. Field efficiency and speed are used by the model to determine the capacity of machines. Both have a similar effect on machinery selection.
