ABSTRACT

In 1964 Borsos et a1.I discovered the ultrastructural complement lesions on membranes attacked by complement and presented evidence that these lesions were associated with the cytolytic activity of complement. Studies in 1970 by Lachman and collaborators 2.3 clearly demonstrated that the five terminal complement proteins C5, C6, C7, C8, and C9 were necessary and sufficient to form lesions on membranes.
