ABSTRACT

Trichinellosis is a foodborne disease caused by infection with parasitic worms of the genus Trichinella. Infection results from ingestion of meat harboring the infective larvae of the parasite. The disease has long been known as trichinosis because the parasite was formerly called Trichina. The term trichinellosis is preferred, and has gained wide acceptance internationally. Many books and comprehensive reviews on trichinellosis have been published, including several in recent decades (1–9).
