ABSTRACT

Althaea rosea Cav. (= Alcea rosea L.) belongs to the family Malvaceae and includes some biennial and annual varieties. It is native to China. Morphological aspects of this plant species were mentioned by Britton and Brown. 1 Plants are tomentose or pilose herbs, with alternate lobed or divided leaves, and axillary or terminal, solitary or racemose, perfect flowers. Involucels of 6 to 9 bractlets unite at the base. Calyces are 5-cleft and petals are 5. The stamen-column bears anthers at the summit. Cavities of the ovary are numerous, 1-ovuled, and style-branches are the same number as the ovary cavities, stigmatic along the inner side.
